Endorsements imply a promise that what is in the book is worth your time. —Steve Laube
I’ve been known to read a book simply because of its endorsements. New author? Terrible cover? No problem if it’s supported by someone I trust. The endorsement brings credibility to the content and allows me to see the message in a new light. The book now holds familiarity for me.
So, I cheer the fact that Hebrews offers its readers a list of endorsements for the Gospel.
This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders, and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. (Hebrews 2:3b-4)
If our salvation is a book, then Hebrews makes it clear that Jesus is the author. He’s the first one who stood, looked around, and said, “I’m here for you.” In John 10:10, He says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
After Jesus left earth, the apostles continued to confirm His ministry to all who would listen. They insisted that what Jesus announced was true. It was their endorsement of the Gospel.
But that’s not the end of it. We also learn that God testified to the Gospel. The Father affirmed Jesus’ message through signs, wonders, and various miracles, bringing awe to humanity as miracles grabbed people’s attention. Everyone knew there was power behind the Good News.
So Jesus announced it, the apostles confirmed it, God demonstrated powerfully that it was true, and then the Holy Spirit showed up—giving out gifts according to His will. Endorsed by each member of the Trinity and the apostles. Wow! We might want to read this Book!
Jesus, fully God and fully man, lived among us, died voluntarily on the cross for sinners, and rose again, making it possible for all to be forgiven and made new. Anyone who receives this gift of salvation is washed clean, instantaneously transformed, and indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God, forever. What will you do with this message of grace that has been established by Jesus and endorsed by all those who loved Him? Do you believe the endorsements? Have you trusted Jesus to save you?
Author of Salvation, save me … Amen.
