It wasn’t long after the #MeToo movement began that the magnitude of the mistreatment of women by powerful men came to light—even in the church. We’ve seen well- and lesser-known church leaders fall from their pedestals. These sobering times leave us questioning not only the credibility of these leaders but also our own judgment about who we can trust. Unfortunately, religious leaders behaving badly is nothing new. The Bible is full of stories where leaders have used their power to conspire, intimidate, and abuse.
In this message, Pete Briscoe teaches from Acts 7 and draws on the story of Stephen to help us understand what our response should be in these situations, what qualities a spiritual leader should possess, and where the church goes from here.
