Is there ever a check in your spirit about whether you’re really a Christian? Studied out of context, 1 John 2:3, which mentions obeying commands, can read more like a warning to believers and cause us to doubt if we’re really children of God. But in reality, John brings to light in his letter the most beautiful and magnificent truth about the new command that Jesus wants us to focus on.
