When the apostle Peter declared that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of the living God, Jesus confirmed that Peter was correct. Jesus then added: "...on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." (Matthew 16:18) The early church came close to being wiped out numerous times, but instead it grew at an incredible rate! Today, however, more than 4,000 churches close their doors every year. If Jesus promised that nothing will overcome His church, why are so many of the modern churches failing?
In this message, Pete Briscoe teaches from Acts 5 where the early infant church was unstoppable, even as the apostles and believers were persecuted. There’s an important lesson here for today’s modern church that—if taken seriously—can reverse the trends and produce vibrant, thriving churches once again.
