How’s Your Side Profile?

Love and pregnancy and riding on a camel cannot be hid. —Arabic Proverb

I have a friend on Facebook who documented her entire pregnancy by standing in front of a large chalkboard. If I click through her album, I can watch her flat tummy begin to protrude, covering a little more of that chalkboard every week. Sure, a number on the board tells me how long she’s been pregnant, but the side profile is all about how much she’s showing.

But I have a question: Is she really showing? I don’t think so. I think the baby is showing himself from inside her.

That baby’s growth represents new life, and that new life shows naturally.

Here’s the point: Our life in Christ is like a pregnancy. It really is. The Spirit of Jesus is in us. The more we let Him live through us, the more Christ shows in our love and our actions. In fact, Paul even uses the metaphor of pregnancy in his letter to the Galatians:

My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you… (4:19)

Until Christ is formed in you…

The word “formed” in this verse is morpho, a Greek medical term used, in places, to describe fetal development.

Wow, what a beautiful picture of surrender to “Christ in us”! So I’m thinking that for men and women alike, Christian living is all about being pregnant with new life and letting that new life show. How is your side profile? Are you letting Him show?

Famous One, I admit that I live in a society of self-promotion, and I tend to show self more often than I let You show. I ask Your Holy Spirit to shift my desire and shift my dependence. I’m done trying to show You on my own. May my life become more about You and less about me today! I belong to You. You are in me. Show Yourself as You choose today. Amen.
