How You Can Hear God’s Voice

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature—trees, flowers, grass—grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls. —Mother Teresa

“God.”

That’s a very simple word: God. Three letters; one syllable; very easy to say.

How could such a small word ever describe the Almighty Father that we find in the Bible? It can’t. No words can, and yet, in the Bible, God reveals Himself to be the One we can know about and the One we can know personally—and then make known to others.

Learning about God is important. But the time quickly comes when words must cease and we must be silent and let God speak to us.

We have barely tasted a drop of water in the ocean of God’s essence. Every moment of every day, it’s as if we are standing on the shore with our toes barely wet. Are you ready to wade in deeper, or perhaps even jump headfirst into intimacy with God? That doesn’t normally happen in the noise and chaos of modern life. It often comes in quiet, thoughtful moments where the truth of Scripture becomes alive.

The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. (Psalm 103:8-14)

Heavenly Father, I want to know You. You’ve revealed Yourself in the Word. Now, please reveal Yourself in my heart. Lead me toward a pure understanding of You as my perfect Father. Then let the reality of You in my life be a light of truth to those in the darkness around me! Amen.
